Send The Beggar is a modern rock band on Christian indy label Rustproof Records. Send The Beggar is based in Columbus, Ohio; and they are content to stay there for a while. Send The Beggar is made up of Matt Bentley, lead vocals; Cris Anthony, guitars; Chris Freeman, guitars; and Brett Fitzer, drums;

How did Send The Beggar get started?

All the members of the group except for Matt Bentley started playing music together in a church praise and worship band. After everyone was out of high school (and out of the youth group and the music ministry), we decided to stay together and write our own material. Matt Bentley joined in the fall of 1994. Chris Freeman was gone from August 1995 – April 1996, so we didn’t do a whole lot while he was away, but when he came back, we decided to pursue music seriously.

How did Send The Beggar get signed?

We first got noticed by David Bach (the former bass player for Guardian), who saw us perform at Youthfest ’96 in Bloomington, Indiana. He told us that we “blew his doors off”, so to speak, so we took this as quite an encouragement. He was working with Organic Records at the time. So we met with Organic a few times, and a few other labels showed interest, but we ended up signing with Rustproof Records in June 1997.

When Did Send The Beggar come out with their first record?

We have a four song EP that we did in June 1997, but our full length project was released nationally in January 1998.

What are Send The Beggar’s musical influences?

Send The Beggar has quite a wide variety of influences, but some big ones are: The Beatles, U2, Rush, The Police, Toad The Wet Sprocket, and Sting.

We have NO idea.

What is StB doing now?

STB is finishing up work on their second album, to be released in October 1999.

How old are all the members?

Matt Bentley is 21, Chris Freeman and Cris Anthony are all 24, and Brett is 25.

Where did you go to high school?

Everyone except for Brett Fitzer went to Tree of Life High School in Columbus, Ohio. Brett went to Beechcroft High School, also in Columbus.
